  • Its Time to Really Take Health Seriously

By Mark Kaplan / April 5, 2020

The pandemic we face is especially brutal to the people with underlying conditions.  How do you get underlying conditions? Mostly through poor diet and inadequate exercise.

If you are overweight, your diet is poor. If you do not exercise three times a week, your program needs to gain some priority. There are few things more important in your life now, because we see that only the strong are surviving.

What is Good Nutrition?

You might start by eliminating the most important elements for losing weight, sugar and flour. Yes that sounds extreme, but it will take weight off the quickest.

A second great way to lose weight is eating only non-flammatory foods. Each person has a different gut microbial make up that determines which foods are inflammatory. In Recitas book The Plan she begins readers with a simple diet that thousands of patients have found to be non-inflammatory. You begin on these foods for three days before you start adding a new food to test each day. I lost 17 pounds in three weeks on her plan.

What is Good Exercise

To start a plan, a five to ten-minute walk may be good. The goal is to walk, bike or run thirty minutes a day, five days a week, which is 150 minutes. The next goal is 300 minutes. It can be reached with consistent time allocation.

The second part of the exercise program should be resistance training. With gyms down at the moment, you could start with two dumbbells and some straps. There is a whole circuit you could establish with squats, dead lifts, bench press, military press, and curls. The straps are used for all types of pulls. There are flys, chest pulls, tricep extensions, and pull downs.

Start with three sets of five reps. As your body gets comfortable, you can add sets/and or reps. It is important to build muscle to keep it from wasting. The more caridio you do, the more resistance training you must do because the body burns muscle to recover from aerobics.

Good Nutrition and Exercise Started Early Life

Good practices are likely to resistance underlying health conditions. Doctors say obesity is the cause of 50% of non-accidental deaths. Obesity leads to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks and strokes. Obesity is a disease, but you have more time to cure it.

Exercise rids the body of inflammation. The more intense the exercise in effort or duration, the better you will feel. It flushes and replenishes our chemicals.

Stress is a third harmful health obstacle. Exercise, solitude, meditation, and connecting with Nature, are all valuable stress release activities. Stress creates another whole list of underlying conditions that combine with poor diet and lack of exercise.

This is the time to get serious.
